Personality
ǂ Tatou tatou e ǂ

₪ Jack isn't much for serious business. He likes to take life in stride with a bit of flair. He's constantly eating and enjoying the good life. He runs and can run well, but usually, he doesn't feel like putting his whole being into the race. He'll tease other horses for enjoyment and maybe even pretend to be focused, but the lazy flicking of his ears is a dead giveaway of the boy's carefree look on life.

Even if racing isn't his ideal occupation, the camera is always a big deal. Jack loves the media and any attention he gets from the press is heaven. He's figured out that if he does well running, then there are lots of cameras pointed at him. There's also some extra carrots waiting back in the barn. A reminder that there's cameras waiting at the finish line is a sure way to get Jack to move fast. He's attracted to the press like bees to honey.

When his racing career is over, Jack could do almost anything. He likes learning new things and being active. He's a high energy sort of guy and standing around day after day in a stall makes him irritated. As eager as he is to learn new stuff, Jack is easily distracted. He can't seem to focus for more than a half hour at any one time and even then, he loses interest if the work isn't engaging. Walking is boring. Trotting is dull. Galloping is much more fun.

The people in his life mean a lot. The boy is gentle with people who are gentle to him. He loves everyone. Every person born is Jack's friend even if they haven't met him. He's more like a big, loveable bear than a racehorse as long as he's at home and no cameras are in sight. Jack loves his animal friends, too. He's made friends with a stray tabby cat that appeared out of nowhere. The two are virtually inseperable and the cat (dubbed Jackie) looks like she wants to kill herself whenever Jack is racing. Jack gets very vocal if he's away from his feline friend for too long.

Jack's wandering mind prevents him from doing well running long distances. Short bursts of speed keep him interested long enough in the race to actually try and do well. He prefers the feel of turf over dirt but he will still run on dirt. The only problem is that Jack hates getting stuff kicked up in his face. Everything flying at him is incredibly distracting and annoying. He acts up a lot more than usual when dirt is thrown into his eyes and nose. If Jack doesn't take an early lead, it's not likely that he'll recover unless he can get away from the other horses in the field.

With regards to other horses, jack generally doesn't mind them. He's not totally fond of other stallions, but as long as there aren't any fillies around, he could ignore the boys. In the presence of a mare, Jack pricks up and would very much like to think of her as being his. He can get really aggressive with other males when a mare comes into heat.

History
ǂ Whaia te maramatanga ǂ

Jack was born to a breeding farm in Indiana. He enjoyed spending time with the other foals and his mother, Missy May. He was sold along with several other foals at a local auction and purchased by Merganser Thoroughbreds. From there, he was trained by experienced hands and his life as a racehorse officially started. Jack was registered under the name Chicago Blues. He entered a few prospect races and placed. He won only once. While his chances didn't look good as a yearling, the records improved slightly in his second year. By that time, his owner and trainer had figured out under what conditions Jack did his best and acted on it. He was trained to break fast and grab an early lead before the track could be kicked up in his face. He won a few more races, placed and showed in several more, but mainly finished fourth or fifth. It's unknown if his third racing year will be any better. It's likely that he'll be retired after a few more years.
